Which connector your vehicle carries
And the maximum AC power its onboard charger accepts. These two figures determine which equipment is compatible; they come from the manual or the dealer.

Measured, not assumed. It decides whether an upgrade is needed, which is by far the most expensive item in the whole project.

From the electrical panel to the parking space. In a residential complex that can be tens of metres through common areas, and the route often costs more than the unit itself.

The proposal must state explicitly whether it follows IEC 61851-1 or section 625 of NTC 2050, and detail residual current protection, overcurrent devices and earthing.
Who is liable for what
The equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer; the installation warranty from whoever did the work. They cover different things and different people handle them.

If you also have, or plan to have, panels
Charging an electric vehicle is by far the largest and most shiftable domestic load you will ever have. That makes it the best companion to a solar installation: it is energy you can move to the hours when your system produces.
Some charging points can prioritise solar surplus over grid energy. It is not essential and it makes the unit more expensive, but it is why many people find it makes sense to plan both installations together rather than one after the other.
The practical argument is simpler than the energy one: both involve work on the same electrical panel. Allowing for them together costs less than opening the panel twice.

Questions about charger installation
The most common questions before hiring, answered with the regulation in hand.
What is needed to install an EV charger in Colombia?
A dedicated circuit complying with RETIE. Its section 20.7 requires installation following IEC 61851-1 or section 625 of NTC 2050, with residual current protection of 30 mA or less, overcurrent protection and proper earthing. If you live in horizontal property, permission from the administration must also be resolved.
Can I install a charger if I live in a residential complex?
Yes, and it is the most frequent case in Colombian cities, but it involves the administration as soon as the cabling crosses common areas or the parking space is exclusive use over common property. The route with least friction is arriving with a technical project and individual metering already proposed, under Ley 675 de 2001.
How much power do I need at home?
Divide the energy you replace per day by the hours the car sits parked and plugged in, and add a margin for losses. With a vehicle that sleeps ten or twelve hours at home, moderate power usually suffices. Sizing by the maximum power the vehicle accepts is the most expensive and most common mistake.
How much does it cost to install a charger?

Does it need maintenance?
RETIE requires technical inspection of the charger at the interval the manufacturer recommends and, if none is specified, at least once a year. It is a small but real recurring cost, and it is worth asking who will carry it out before signing.
